  • We are a UK-based charity registered with the Charity Commission working, through partnership, with local communities in southern Africa.
  • We work in partnership with Non Government Organisations (NGOs), small businesses and local groups within communities in southern Africa to help bring about change. Although the spectrum of need is vast, our current focus is:

Ø the vital area of HIV/AIDS education and counselling.
Ø providing pre-school and early years education in disadvantaged communities.
Ø providing vital support and infrastructure to small businesses, including
       subsistence farming.
    Ø contributing to community healthcare.
  • In 2010, more than £57,000 was raised which supported 11 projects in southern Africa.
  • 100% of donations made to Ukuthasa projects are used on projects, not on administrative expenses or to pay staff.
  • Since 1995, project workers Gary and Nicky Welsh with the goal of building bridges with local communities and making a tangible difference to people's lives. They visited post-apartheid South Africa and were captivated by the country and its people. Overwhelmed by the poverty, deprivation and the horror of HIV/AIDS that they encountered, they gave up their jobs in the UK and moved to South Africa.
  • Ukuthasa is made possible through a small UK-based staff, project workers based in South Africa and a volunteer Board of Trustees.

To empower and work in partnership with disadvantaged communities in southern Africa, helping to relieve poverty, improve housing conditions, preserve public health and provide vocational skill training and education.
